IDSPEC — Passport photo rules, taken from the government source.

What you are getting

IDSPEC is an information site. Every figure is transcribed from a government source and stamped with the date it was checked, and the source is linked on each page so you can read it yourself.

No guarantee of acceptance. Requirements change without notice, authorities publish conflicting pages, and counter staff apply their own judgement. Nothing here is an approval, a legal opinion, or a promise that a photo will be accepted. Before you submit, confirm against the authority's own page — we link it on every country page.

Liability

The site is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss arising from use of this site, including rejected applications, travel costs, or missed deadlines. If you find an error, tell us and we will fix it — that is the remedy we can offer.

The photo tool

The tool measures what can be measured from the crop you set. It does not judge expression, background, lighting, glasses or head position, and a “within spec” reading refers only to the head height you have marked. It runs in your browser; we never receive your image and therefore cannot recover it for you.

Content and reuse

The underlying requirements are facts published by governments and belong to no one. Our wording, layout, comparisons and the tool itself are ours. Quote us with a link; do not republish the pages wholesale.

No affiliation

IDSPEC is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of any government, embassy or immigration authority. Country and document names are used descriptively.
